Once people see the striking beauty of a timber frame standing in all its glory

they often express regret that their timber frame house must be enclosed with walls (it's a bit drafty without them:). The only time the frame of a timber frame home can be fully seen from the outside is for that brief time after it is standing but before the walls go on. From then on, although its beauty is exposed to the inside, the joinery is hidden to the outside world.

Not so with gazebos and pavilions. These open sided structures are a great way to show the beauty of timber framing in your yard or garden. The fact that gazebos and pavilions are usually smaller then houses, don't have the same use requirements and their joinery is visible from the outside allows for wonderful design possibilities.
