Some aspects of timber framing are fun. However, as with everything, there are some aspects that just need to get done between the fun parts. Getting hurt is not fun. If we want to timber frame for years to come we need to use our ingenuity to spare our bodies.
How do you roll a 22' long 12" x 12" that weighs about 1100 lbs? To roll it requires a lift of about 550 lbs. Granted the lift need be only a few inches but not everyone can do that. Also, rolling timbers of this size makes for a long day for those who can.
There must be a better way. Here is just one way to make this task easier.

A strap and a stick. Readily available, inexpensive and light. The stick is in a loop of strap. |
Lay the stick end on top of the strap to clamp it in place. |

Keep your back straight. Use your legs. |
As the timber goes over, hold the free end of the strap to control the landing. |
It looks impressive but is really quite easy.
With a 4 foot stick it requires only about a 140 lb lift. If this is still too heavy, get a longer stick.
With techniques like this you can work all day and not be completely worn out.
